HOTEL ALFRED SOMMIER, Paris – A Smart Stay in the City
About the Hotel
Historic Family Mansion
Hotel Alfred Sommier occupies a restored 19th-century hôtel particulier originally built for sugar industrialist Alfred Sommier. The property features 80 rooms including 17 suites, with original marble fireplaces, gilded mirrors, oak flooring, and the family monogram wrought into staircase railings. Two marble staircases and a white-and-garnet marble checkerboard floor create a grand entrance.
Elegant Rooms & Suites
Rooms feature herringbone parquet floors, marble bathrooms with Guerlain amenities, and high ceilings. Some offer views of the Eiffel Tower, Montmartre, or the private garden. The Vaux-le-Vicomte Suite (91 m²) includes four gilded wall mirrors and connects to a junior suite. Fifth-floor rooms have Parisian rooftop views, and several include terraces.
Dining and Garden
Les Caryatides restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a dining room flanked by two statues. Meals are also served in the Louis XV salon and under the canopy. The bar occupies the former smoking room with a red marble counter and opens to the garden. The private garden has terraces and 14-meter-high wall hangings depicting floral designs and Alfred Sommier's portrait.
Central Paris Location
The hotel is on a quiet street 300 meters from Madeleine Metro and 500 meters from Auber RER. It is within walking distance of rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré boutiques, Galeries Lafayette, Printemps department stores, Garnier Opera, and Champs-Élysées. Five metro lines and ten bus lines serve the area within a 5-minute walk.
Meetings and Services
Five daylight meeting rooms host events for up to 180 guests. The Salon Doré (42 m²) has Louis XV decor, and Alfred's office (30 m²) opens to the garden. Services include concierge, valet parking, fitness room, and in-house laundry. Rooms are available for professional photoshoots with views of the Eiffel Tower or Montmartre.

Guest Ratings & Reviews
My stay at the hotel was pleasant overall. The room we had booked, although a superior, felt a bit small for a triple suite. However, it was quite good in terms of comfort. The limited breakfast and absence of a full evening meal over the weekend were minor letdowns.
The hotel offers a mix of pros and cons. The rooms, although cozy, carry some noise from neighboring doors. However, they provide a nice and standard accommodation. The service, while having a rich history, lacked organization, especially on Saturday mornings. The location is central and convenient for exploring, but check-in can be disappointing. The dining experience is up to standard but could offer more variety. Overall, a stay with highs and lows.
Even though the hotel felt more like a four-star than a five-star, the room was spacious and comfortable, albeit basic for a superior category. The breakfast was limited, and the evening meal options over the weekend were just snacks.
The hotel has nicely decorated and clean rooms, with complimentary water and soft drinks provided daily. However, the room size was smaller than expected for a superior booking, and the dining options were limited with only snacks available over the weekend.
The hotel is conveniently located near everything Paris has to offer. The rooms, although a little small and lacking a bath, are typical for city center hotels. The service was exceptional, with staff going above and beyond to cater to our needs. The location was excellent, with easy access to key attractions and amenities. The dining experience fell short with limited options and slow service.
The hotel is beautifully designed and comfortable, perfectly located for easy access to most city center locations within a short walk. However, the room design felt a bit cramped with excessive furniture, and public spaces could be improved.
